Early Intervention (Birth - Three)

Sound START Program

Early identification and intervention is key when working with children who are deaf/hard of hearing. Sound START is KSD's state-wide early intervention program serving children from birth to age 3 and their families. The Sound START team work with tiny-k networks throughout the state to provide direct service to the child and his family. Often they serve as the Case Manager to coordinate services for the families. Attendance at Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) meetings to support the family is included.

Each family is unique and the services needed are individualized according to each family's priorities. The staff believe in providing services that are evidence-based and family-centered. Services provided include:

  • Home visits
  • Consultations
  • Attending audiology appointments
  • Deaf mentor (see below)
  • Support with transition to preschool
  • Resources and technical assistance for families and service providers
